The following is a list of the 12 Polling Divisions that have been established for
the forthcoming Municipal Election to be held in the Town of Channel - Port aux Basques on September 26th, 2017.

POLLING DIVISION #1 - UNITED CHURCH HALL

LeGallais Street - Beginning at Robert Hayward’s residence on one side of the road and Knott’s Lane on the opposite side of the road to the end of LeGallais Street. Includes Water Street East, Feltham’s Avenue, MacKay Avenue, Knott’s Lane, MacDonald Drive, Bragg’s Lane, Lawrence Lane and Hillside Lane.

POLLING DIVISION #2 - UNITED CHURCH HALL

LeGallais Street - Both sides of the road beginning at Spencer’s Auto to Alvin Keeping’s residence on one side and to the intersection of Hillside Lane on the opposite side of the road. Also includes Lillington Avenue, Currie Avenue, Citadel Street and Stadium Road.

POLLING DIVISION #3 - UNITED CHURCH HALL

Baird Street, Clement Crescent, East Avenue, Forsey’s Lane, Knox Avenue & Water Street West.

POLLING DIVISION #4 - UNITED CHURCH HALL

Main Street - Both sides of the road from Charles Street to Spencer’s Auto. Includes Charles Street, Bennett’s Lane, Savoury’s Lane, Read Street, Legion Road, Elizabeth Avenue and Church Lane.

POLLING DIVISION #5 - FIRE HALL

Main Street - From Martin’s Corner to the corner of Charles Street on the right hand side of the road and to the corner of Read Street on the opposite side of the road. This includes all side roads.

POLLING DIVISION #6 - FIRE HALL

Both sides of Regional Street from Martin’s Corner to C & G Variety on one side of the road and the Tennis Court on the opposite side. Also includes Bryne’s Lane, Brook Street, Harry’s Lane, Skeard’s Lane, Marine Drive and both sides of Caribou Road from the Bank of Nova Scotia up to the Anglican Cemetery.

POLLING DIVISION #7 - FIRE HALL

Regional Street - Both sides of the road beginning at Base Road on one side and the Tennis Court on the opposite side, up to and including Hardy’s Arterial. Also includes First Avenue, Second Avenue, Lakeshore Road, Base Road, Gale Street, Seaview Lane, Musseau’s Lane, Warren’s Road and Oceanview Lane.

POLLING DIVISION #8 - FIRE HALL

Regional Street - Both sides of the road from Hardy’s Arterial to the end of Mouse Island, including all side roads.

POLLING DIVISION #9 - LIONS CLUB

Both sides of the road from the Anglican Cemetery on High Street to the Grand Bay Mall on Grand Bay Road. Includes all side roads and Grandview Crescent.

POLLING DIVISION #10 - LIONS CLUB

Both sides of Grand Bay Road from the Mall to the end of Grand Bay Road. Includes all side roads.

POLLING DIVISION #11 - LIONS CLUB

Barhaven Drive, Brigus Drive, Cabot Street, Dennis Road, Grand Bay West Road, Kyle Lane and LeGrow Street.

POLLING DIVISION #12 - LIONS CLUB

Bay Street, Carson Crescent, Cox Avenue, Edna’s Road, Smallwood Drive, Sunset Drive, and Taverner Drive.

Please note there will be a mobile poll taking place at the Seniors Home, Complex and Hospital.

Public Notice
The Town of Channel – Port aux Basques wishes to advise all residents that household garbage is required to be placed on the curb for pickup prior to 8:00 a.m. in the morning. Garbage put out for collection must be in a closed container, or covered with a type of netting or other material.
Garbage placed for collection shall be covered with a weighted, solid colored, nylon or polyester net with a maximum mesh size of 25 mm x 25 mm or other type of weighted covering acceptable to the Town.
Nets and other type covers used for the covering of garbage shall be designed and maintained in a manner acceptable to the Town so as to ensure they provide adequate coverage, cannot be blown off the garbage, are easily removable by the garbage collector and do not blow away once the garbage has been removed.
The metal or plastic containers used to contain garbage placed for collection and nets used to cover garbage laced for collection shall be removed from the curb or street no later than 8:00 p.m. on the day which the garbage was placed for collection.
Household garbage placed at the curb that is not covered will not be collected. If uncovered garbage that is placed at the curb happens to be scattered around by wind or animals, the property owner will be responsible to immediately clean it up. Failure to do so will result in the Town undertaking the cleanup and charging the owner a cleanup fee.
Collection of garbage and refuse shall be at least once in every seven (7) days, commencing at the hour of 8 o‘clock in the forenoon (8:00 a.m.), or seven thirty (7:30 a.m.) during summer months, provided however, that when a public or statutory holiday occurs on a collection day, such collection may be made on the next following working day, unless otherwise specified by the Director of Public Works or his designate.
Residents are reminded to keep the sidewalk by their property clear of debris and grass cuttings.

Reminder to all residents
The Town of Channel- Port aux Basques requires all dogs to be leashed at all times when not on the owners property. This includes all areas of the community including trails, pathways, parks and beaches. This does not apply within the fence of the dog park on Bay Street.

Public Notice
The Town of Channel – Port aux Basques wishes to remind residents that the Snow Clearing Regulations states:
Claims against the Municipality for damages to mobile or portable articles, garbage boxes, buildings, fences, trees, shrubs, hedges, rock walls and lawns on private property will be accepted by the municipality when they occur, as a result of being struck by equipment, operated by employees of the Municipality, or by contractors, during the periods of time they are engaged in work on behalf of the Municipality, and where they occur outside the street reservation of the Town Street the distance of same from the centre line being dependent on the street reservation of the street where the damage occurred, or where the mobile or portable articles, garbage boxes, buildings, fences, trees, shrubs, hedges, rock walls and lawns had been indicated by clearly visible markers. Damaged items will be repaired to a condition consistent with conditions prior to the incident.
